Today in Women’s Herstory…

APRIL 17, 1964:  Geraldine Mock became the first woman to fly solo around the world.  Her trip took 29 days, 21 stopovers, and almost 22,860 miles.  She was awarded the Louis Bleriot Medal the Federation Aeronautique Internationale.  Besides being the first woman to fly solo around the world, she is also the first woman to fly U.S. to Africa via the North Atlantic, to fly the Pacific single-engine, to fly the Pacific West to East, to fly both the Atlantic and the Pacific, and to fly the Pacific both directions.
